This poem describes the lively and splendid scene of a New Year celebration in the capital city.
On the dawn of the new year in Jingluo, the moon is at its fullest. The moon seems to rotate alone in the clouds, like a unique gem hanging in the sky. People from all corners of the land gather together, bringing with them all sorts of theatrical performances. The streets are filled with vehicles, and the shops and pavilions are connected on both sides.
Amidst this liveliness, something extraordinary happens. Magnificent birds like red-crowned cranes appear from the洛水, and gracefully soaring仙鹤 grace the伊川. The beauty of these creatures dances against the backdrop of wind and snow, accompanied by sweet melodies from flutes and other musical instruments. These gorgeous women, dressed up beautifully, march into the theater, reminding one of ancient heroes like He Pinggu and Zhang Zixiang.
Their hair is tied up in high urban styles, and they are adorned with exquisite makeup. Their robes resemble flying peacocks, and their belts are adorned with images of mandarin ducks. The beauty of Ban Ji is reflected in their fans, and their movements send out a gentle breeze that seems to carry the fragrance of Han Shou.
Throughout the night, fish-shaped lamps are carried by people, and dragon-shaped candles illuminate the sky. The joy and laughter never seem to end, as songs and poems are recited continuously. Performing arts such as the Northern song and dance of龟兹are displayed with intricate masks adorned with gold and silver, and splendid costumes swaying with jewels.
The night is still young, and the performances have not yet ended, which is a sight to behold. Riders on horseback drive their horses forward, turning gracefully on their silver saddles. Swordsmanship is showcased as they jump and spin their swords in every direction. The dance of the animals is lively and vibrant, with lions, tigers, elephants, and other creatures performing to the beat of drums.
The scene then shifts to a lush forest where deer, monkeys, and other animals frolic. The old carvings on gold are displayed, and the sound of jade is heard as new ash is stirred up. The branches of riverside willows are covered with new growth, and old flowers scatter in the garden amidst plumes of plum blossoms.
As the night progresses, the stars begin to fade away, but the moon still shines bright in the sky. The princes and noblemen are still enjoying the festivities but have not returned home yet. Together, they raise their glasses to drink auspicious liquor while admiring this magnificent spectacle on this auspicious day for all under heaven.
